About the Author
Paul Pitchford is a teacher and nutrition researcher. In his healing work with individuals, he develops rejuvenative plans based on awareness and dietary practices. From Part I, Chapter 2: The Principle of ExtremesWhen the excessive principle reaches its limit, the extreme yin or yang transforms into its opposite. This is known as the “Principle of Extremes.” This principle is readily observed in warm-blooded animals, when a fever is produced in response to an exposure to cold, or when chills result from an excess of summer heat.Other examples: 1. Extreme activity, such as hard physical work, necessitates rest. 2. If activity is very fierce and yang (such as in war), death (which is very yin) can be the result. 3. People frequently become more child-like with extreme age. Also, with advancing years, a person gradually exhibits less physical strength but, if healthy, greater wisdom. This represents the loss of bodily attachment to earth and the shifting of focus toward heaven, an example of extreme yin changing to extreme yang. 4. As internal heat and blood pressure become higher (yang), a stroke resulting in paralysis (yin) becomes more likely. 5. Extremely energizing substances such as cocaine cause utter debility later. One also is eventually weakened by stimulants such as caffeine and refined sugar.6. In meditation, proper concentration on a single object ultimately results in universal awareness.The process by which phenomena change into their opposites may be described graphically with spirals, a very common pattern in the universe. A must own book!

This book is HUGE, 750 pages of amaziness! So worth every penny, you will not regret buying this book! This book is packed full of information, there is just enough information on TCM and about different illnesses, quite a bit on liver health and how it affects several areas of the body, I found very informative. Also a lot on the whole foods aproach and foods that are destructive to you body and the reasons why they should be avoided. There are recipes to try and for some a new way to look at your current constitution and if it is lacking you can determine which aproach to try to restore balance. Overall a great book, and a must for anyone who is interested in healing their body with whole foods.

This book saved my life.

My first copy of this book was given to me by my best friend who found out I had gall bladder disease, but couldn't get surgery for several months. She gave me her copy and I looked up my condition, what foods to eat and why. Within a week, my symptoms had eased, along with the pain, I could move my body smoothly and within a month had lost about 30 pounds. When I finally got my gall bladder removed, I had one stone the size of the end of my index finger. I had been slowly building toxic waste in my body and I truly believe had I not changed my diet and lifestyle, I was heading for a non reversible condition that could have killed me. I gave that copy of Healing with Whole Foods to a friend who needed some help and bought a newer version. Gave that away to another friend. Got a newer. I am on my fourth copy. I reference it quite often and with total confidence.

Terrific Reference Book

My mail person commented on the weight of this huge book as she struggled to carry it in her pouch to my door. At over 700 pages, this book should be purchased in the hard-cover edition. This edition actually weighs less than the soft-cover book. This is a work covering everything you ever wanted to know about using whole foods to cure anything that ails you, preventing diseases from starting, even using the fung shui system to classify foods. You can read this book from cover to cover, or pick a chapter of immediate interest. I will use this book for years to come as a reference book on all sorts of topics. I found a section near the end of the book on why root canals are not the option one should choose to repair a tooth. I wish I knew that many years ago. To learn how to eat properly, how to choose the foods you want to eat, and how to keep one's body in good health, are all reasons to buy this book. The vendor is swift to get the book to you in excellent condition. All in all, one of the best books I have ever purchased. It was suggested to me as a book to buy in a nutrition course I am taking at this time.
