About the Author
William Law was one of the great clerics and educators of the Church of England. He was educated at Cambridge, eventually taking a teaching position there in addition to being ordained in the Church of England. The best known and most popular of the books he wrote was "A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life."

A True word on the Holy Spirit!

Anything by William Law is GOOD.
Some people accuse William Law of being a mystic! I do not understand how some can say that? He was, in fact, totally practical. He talked a great deal about how to ACTUALLY live the Christian life, in obedience and holiness. I think that the people who accuse him, Madam Guyon and others of being mystics is because they do NOT believe that living a holy life is actually possible. Therefore, they accuse them of being mystics, a.k.a. mystical, not being real or living in reality. It reminds me of what Paul warned us about the Last Days, "...realize this, that in the last days..." that men "...will be holding to a FORM of Godliness but denying the power thereof, from such turn away [have nothing to do with these who spread UNBELIEF in God's power, to change us and make us LIKE HIM, holy]." II Tim. 3:1 and 3:5.
Any one who teaches obedience and holiness today is accused of all kinds of things like "being a mystic", "a dreamer", "preaching works", etc.
The original title was '"An Humble, Earnest, and Affectionate Address to the Clergy', so Law talking to the clergy here but primarily ALL about the Holy Spirit about, and our NEED to depend upon the Him for EVERYTHING, and that it is only through the Holy Spirit that anything of the Christian life is possible, and that without Him (the Holy Spirit) NOTHING is possible.
However, few accuse Andrew Murray of any of these things, and he personally had this book updated into modern English in 1895 (from its original English of 1760's) and reprinted it about 1896. Here is a quote from Andrew Murray regarding this book, "I do not know where to find anywhere else with the same clear and powerful statement of the truth which the Church needs at the present day. I have tried to read or consult every book I knew of, that treats of the work of the Holy Spirit, and nowhere have I met with anything that brings the truth of our dependence on the continual leading of the Spirit, and the assurance that that leading can be enjoyed without interruption, as this teaching ...which I believe to be entirely scriptural". And, "I confess that in all my reading, I have never found anyone who has so helped me in understanding the Scripture truth of the work of the Holy Spirit."
The book is SO GOOD that is has been reprinted at least three to four times. The one here that I am reviewing, once by Andrew Murray, and recently by Dave Hunt. It was printed under the title, 'The Power of the Spirit' by Andrew Murray and Dave Hunt.
I dropped one star because this is close to the original of 1760 and is therefore not always easy to read. The BEST one is by Andrew Murray, IF you can find it available I would highly recommend it.

Jesus' power understood

I could never understand how Christains would be able to do "greater works" than Jesus. How could Jesus make this statement. As I have studied the person of the Holy Spirit I have seen the truth of Christ's prediction. Several books have helped me see key passages in the Bible. The book, "You Will Receive Power" by William Law has a clear understandable message. And the message is told by someone that has come to a new understanding of the person of the Holy Spirit.
Mr. Law guides the reader through a coarse of Biblical truths that show Jesus was in constant communication with God the father by way of the Holy Spirit. And the miracles that were done in Jesus ministry was by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Here is the eye poper, the Holy Spirit is here today so you and I can follow Jesus instruction and become a bridge for the Power of Heaven to touch earth's need.
I highly reccommend this book for greater understanding of the power in Jesus ministry. And even more pressing is the understanding that the Holy Spirit is here today to work in and through every Christian. Check it out!
