Alan J. Daly is an assistant professor of education at the University of California, San Diego.

About the Author
Alan J. Daly, PhD, is an assistant professor of education at the University of California, San Diego. He earned his PhD in education from the University of California, Santa Barbara.� In addition to fifteen years' experience in public education as a teacher, psychologist, and administrator, Daly has also been the program director for the Center for Educational Leadership and Effective Schools at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In this position he collaboratively supported the delivery of high-quality services and research to five school districts, focusing on social networks, trust, and potential of systems for change. Daly has presented and published work in the areas social network theory and impact of accountability policy as well as on educational reform and organizational learning.

A Must Read!!

Social Network Theory and Educational Change really nails the topic of educational change using a unique and interesting approach. This book reports high quality research by leading scholars in educational reform/change in a manner that is thoughtful, clear, and can be applied to the work of improving education. As there is so much discussion around the term `social network' it was helpful to have a grounding in the concept both in the outset and conclusion of the book--each chapter includes scholarly and practical insights that make this book useful for a wide variety of scholars and educators who are interested in educational reform. Unlike other books on educational change, it was great to see how social networks can be applied, and how the approach yields important insights into the process of change. Although Social Network Theory and Educational Change is focused on education in a broad sense, most of the information/insights can be applied in a wide variety of settings such as business, healthcare, or any other field that relies on social interactions to get work accomplished. One of the most thoughtful and engaging books on educational reform I have read in a long time.

Daly Understands Social Networks

This book not only provides a great overview of social network theory, but it also does an incredible job at providing evidence for why educational reform is hindered by relationships that exist. So, if you are looking for a good description of social network theory, this is the book for you. Or, if you are hoping to better understand the dynamics of educational reform, this book is perfect.
